On Monday, September 10, our Honor Guard participated in the Opening Ceremony for the Tee it Up for the Troops event at the Wanakah Country Club. Though the golf portion of the event had to be canceled due to the weather, the event still featured a patriotic opening ceremony to honor all who have served in the military. The 21 Gun Salute was performed Post 880 Honor Guard.

Every Month, State Senator Chris Jacobs honors a Veteran of the Month. The January 2018 Veteran of the Month is James Trembath of Angola, NY.

Reminder - the door locks are going to be changed on November 1 so if you haven’t yet paid your 2018 membership dues, you need to do so now. Legion dues are $41, Auxiliary and SAL dues are $25.
2. SAL Commander Ken Szal has a friend who is escorting WWII veteran Edward Adamczyk on the Buffalo Honor Flight to Washington DC to see the memorials. They are asking for cards of thanks to Mr. Adamczyk that will be given to him on the return flight home as part of their “mail call”. Please help by droppong off a card for Ed at the Post no later than Saturday, October 21st so Ken can get them to his friend in time for the Honor Flight. See the attached notice for more information. 3. The Auxiliary will be sending care packages to military servicemen and women in time for Christmas. If you know of someone in the military who will not be home for the holidays, please send me their mailing address by November 10th and we will send them a box of goodies. Third Parking Sign For Purple Heart Veterans in Erie County Goes Up At Town of Evans Senior Center10/12/2017 Evans – on Thursday September 28th , Assemblyman Mickey Kearns and Town of Evans Senior Center Director Veronica Sullivan unveiled the new ‘ Combat Wounded Designated Parking’ space for Purple Heart veterans at the Town of Evans Senior Center in Derby. The “ Combat Wounded Designated Parking Program is run by the Wounded Warrior Family Support organization. Assemblyman Kearns is championing an effort to expand this program in WNY and encourage businesses and municipalities to sign up for a ‘ Combat Wounded Designated Parking’ sign and join the ‘ Purple Heart Parking Club’ .
“ The Combat Wounded Designated Parking ‘ sign are one small way we can give back to those who have given their best for our community. I commend the Town of Evans Senior Center for signing up and designating a parking space at their building for our Purple Heart veterans, “ said Assemblyman Mickey Kearns. “ I believe this award demonstrates how our military service men and women love our country and their fellow comrades. In the field they have to count on their comrades to have their back and “ Thank God” they do. The situations our military personnel have to deal on a daily basis are frightening at times. They fight and provide our country with safety and freedom. As their country we should recognize all of them and provide these symbols of gratitude for their service as with the Purple Heart Parking sign, “ said Veronica Sullivan , Director of Town of Evans Senior Center. Assemblyman Kearns also honored Purple Heart veteran, Russell D. Ward with a NYS Certificate of Recognition for his service in the Army during the Vietnam War at the unveiling Parking sign ceremony at the Evans Senior Center. Prior to that James Trembath was a recipient of the NYS Certificate of Recognition for his service in the Army branch during the Vietnam an War. These individuals are both active in the support of acknowledging and advocating for military service personnel to be acknowledge for their time and continuing support to their communities and country. News from Assemblyman Michael P. Kearns – submitted by Veronica Sullivan Director of Evans Senior Center Heart - Chapter 187, town of Evans officials and several Purple Heart recipients unveiled the new sign at the corner of Beach Road at Route 5 (near Tim Horton's) at a designation ceremony. There was a small reception at the town hall after the unveiling. In May 2015, by an act of the Erie County Legislature, Erie County officially became a "Purple Heart County," honoring those who were wounded or killed in combat.
On June 14th, Newell-Faulkner Post 880 American Legion, held it's Flag burning ceremony on Flag Day. In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. When a flag is so tattered that it no longer fits to serve as a symbol of the United States, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning. Newell-Faulkner Post 880 American Legion and the Eden Boy Scouts of America collect American Flags through out the year and after careful inspection, the Legion decides which flags should be retired.
On Saturday, June 10, 2017, The Blue Star Memorial Marker was unveiled in front of Newell-Faulkner Post 880 American Legion. It is to honor all past, present and future men & women who have served, are serving, or will serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. Thank you to everyone that came out to our dedication.
